What in the....BarYard League?  

Join us on Thursday nights for our Winter BarYard League at Stateside Tap and Tavern in Somerset, NJ.  Music - Drinks - Food – and....Games! What games? The list is below, but we reserve the right to change it up if we need to.

Here’s the recipe: hand-eye coordination, backyard games expertise, a dash of boardgame prowess, your inner dog-eat-dog, and 8oz of silly…mix in a blender and aggressively strain over 7-8 weeks of play.

This is a 2v2 league - teams must have 2 to 3 players - with no gender requirements.  You play for 7 weeks and if you're good (or lucky), you play for 8!

Teams play 1 full match in a different type of game each week. Matches consist of varying number of individual games, depending on the game being played. Each match should take about 55 min. Scores and standings are updated online.

Games

Some games require both players to play simultaneously. Other games will require players to play one at a time and switch off for each individual game within the match.  Most games are tabletop type games.  Some exceptions are cornhole and ringtoss, for example.

Possible Games on Tap (actual games may differ) :

• Crokinole (a Canadian shuffleboard sort of battle)
• Curling (5 ft board -- sorry, no ice rink at the bar)
• Shuffleboard (5 ft board)
• Hook'er (Ring Darts)
• Cornhole (Slim Boys -- Official size hole, slimmer board)
• DAGZ (if cornhole and dice had a baby)
• 3-Hole Molly (a 3 hole cornhole game -- go underhand or overhand...do what ya gotta do).
• one or 2 more coming... (looking for the most ridiculous game we can find to bring out your inner monster)

NOTE: Some games, like Shuffleboard, are smaller than their official sizes in order to be played in the bar. For example, we couldn’t get a curling ice rink.  Most games are table-top sort of games.

Roshambo will be played to pick a side or first-go. You might lose this every week! Teams may be randomly placed in divisions where you will play all season.

Rules

• Each game will have its own set of rules that will be posted.  This is a self-officiated league (no ref fees) with a League Manager/Game MC present to monitor general play and to help with rules.  You must wear your team shirts to get the bar specials.  Most important rule: if you act inappropriately at the bar --with staff, fellow players, other patrons, with furniture (?), game damage, whatever -- and the bar or league decides to ban you, you (or the entire team) will be removed from the league without a refund.

When we play

• Thursdays - Game Start times are between 7pm and 8:30pm.  Please be prepared to play at any of these times throughout the season; regular season schedule will be posted at the beginning of the season.  Specific game times cannot be guaranteed.  

Season

Each team will play 7-8 total matches in the season with each regular season match involving a different game.

Structure will depend on number of teams. 7 regular season weeks and an additional 1-2 weeks of playoffs for teams that advance. One match each week. Number of teams to advance to playoffs will depend on number of teams in the league. Playoffs will be a multi-game event involving games you've played; exact games or structure will be decided by the Gaming Governing Body (be prepared for anything) and based on the game's playability during the season.  Champions win a $100 gift certificate to the host bar, 2nd place wins $50 gift certificate to the host bar.

*please factor in additional weeks of play to account for cancelations due to inclement weather.

Registration

Early registration fee is $100 per team for the season plus $3.95 processing fee thru Jan. 15th. Up to 3 people/team, but require 2. Goes up $10 to the regular $110 plus $3.95 processing after Jan 15th.

How to register: Captain registers as "Captain", sets up the team, and pays the entire team fee. Teammates then sign up as "Team Player", and choose the team from the drop-down menu (don't get charged for registration because Captain already paid it).  Please only sign up directly for a team by which you've been invited -- don't be a crasher.

If you are a free agent looking for a partner, please register as a Free Agent. You will be charged the Free Agent fee and be teamed up with up to 2 others for your team. If we cannot get you on a team, you will be refunded.

Team Registration Deadline is Jan 20th  or until the league sells out - limited team spots available so it may sell out well before this date.
